POSTURAL ALIGNMENT EXERCISE THERAPY

Our bodies are designed to move, to be in motion.  Our musculoskeletal system is designed to work as a unit.  When either or both of those things are compromised, dysfunctions can develop which our body must adapt to via postural compensations.  In other words, the body adds a new movement in an attempt to make up for a lack of movement or strength in another area of the body.

Barring trauma, congenital, or nerve conditions, chronic pain is very often a symptom of compensation; compensations are symptoms of an underlying dysfunction, which is what I'm looking for!

When you're practicing yoga, working out, hiking or walking, and your body is misaligned, you may be strengthening your body in a dysfunctional position.  Knowing just what to do in order to resolve and offset imbalances will help to ensure that you are getting the most out of your efforts to get fit.  When your body functions as it was designed to, you'll also reduce wear and tear on your joints, and potentially be spared from more invasive measures down the road.

Postural correction is more of a mental activity than it is of manipulating specific body parts.  This kind of work heightens your body's ability to perceive its position and movement patterns through sensory receptors in the muscles and joints. You'll have a better understanding of where your body parts are and how they are moving, even without looking at them.
