massage therapy & Postural alignment for Hip Bursitis

We have bursae in our heels, ankles, knees, hips, elbows and shoulders (there are more...). They are small, fluid-filled sacs located near joints in the body that act as cushions between bones, tendons, and muscles, helping to reduce friction and allow smooth movement.  They are essential for joint function and can become inflamed, leading to a condition known as bursitis.  The above image shows the type of hip bursitis I most often see, that is Trochanteric Bursitis.  Pain on the side of the hip when lying down is a give away, or pressing in on it.

Prolonged pressure, repetitive strain, muscle weakness/tightness are the most common causes I see.  Massage therapy works like magic on a bursitis by softening surrounding tight muscle and connective tissue.
