Our bodies are designed to move, to be in motion. Our musculoskeletal system is designed to work as a unit. When either or both of those things are compromised, dysfunctions can develop which our body must adapt to via postural compensations. In other words, the body adds a new movement in an attempt to make up for a lack of movement or strength in another area of the body. Compensations are symptoms of an underlying dysfunction. Barring trauma, congenital or nervous conditions, chronic pain is very often a symptom of compensation. Postural Alignment Therapy is a plan of action that rediscovers the body's design and allows it to work as it was intended.
The key to quick and lasting results from postural therapy is compliance with your exercise routine. Even if you only have 20 minutes a day to devote to it, you will feel the benefits.
When you're practicing yoga, working out, hiking or walking, and your body is misaligned, you may be strengthening your body in a dysfunctional position. Knowing just what to do in order to resolve and offset imbalances will help to ensure that you're getting the most out of your efforts to get fit. When your body functions as it was designed to, you'll also reduce wear and tear on your joints, and potentially be spared from more invasive measures down the road.
Watch a demonstration of how the Egoscue Tower releases tight hip flexor muscles directly, and indirectly releases the spine and the leg/knee/ankle. I often use it as a diagnostic tool because it very quickly reveals where the imbalances are.
